Kitui County leaders have pledged to enhance their cooperation in driving development, following a strategic meeting held in Mombasa County. The week-long event, which brought together Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), aimed at assessing the county’s progress and addressing challenges related to resource constraints.
The meeting, themed “Financing County Development in the Face of Shrinking Fiscal Space,” saw the leaders discuss critical issues such as healthcare, infrastructure, water management, and youth empowerment. MCA Mark Ndingo, recognized for his collaborative efforts with Governor Malombe, was also present at the event.
Keynote speakers, including former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana and health expert Dr. Zachary Kariuki, provided valuable insights into leadership and service delivery. The leaders collectively committed to several key resolutions, including the construction of new healthcare facilities in underserved areas, expanding water infrastructure, and improving road networks.
Governor Malombe stressed the need for collaboration with national agencies and neighboring counties to maintain peace and security. He highlighted the importance of transparency, professionalism, and accountability in service delivery, expressing confidence in the county’s ability to achieve its development goals.
Additionally, the county plans to hold a youth engagement forum in November to address the aspirations of Kitui’s younger population. This meeting marked a significant step in strengthening governance and improving the welfare of Kitui residents through joint efforts by the county’s leadership.
