Today, the County Government of Kitui, in collaboration with international agencies, unveiled the tractor-ripping program in Kitui West and Kitui South Sub-Counties. This initiative, funded by KOICA through FAO, UN Women, and the County Government, aims to bolster local farmers’ adoption of climate-smart practices, particularly empowering women farmers.
The program prioritizes providing women farmers with access to climate-smart information, empowering agricultural extension workers, and ensuring timely climate services. Dr. Mbaya, Kitui’s CECM for Agriculture, emphasized Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s commitment to enhancing food security and increasing yields through modern farming technologies.
Encouraging farmers to embrace rippers for soil conservation and productivity, Dr. Mbaya highlighted the administration’s efforts in revitalizing tractors and distributing them across wards. He urged youth to consider agriculture as a viable career path, citing its significant contribution to the country’s GDP.
Accompanied by Chief Officer Gladys Kivoto and other county officials, the initiative signals Kitui’s proactive approach to sustainable agriculture and gender empowerment.
