President Ruto Assents to Supplementary Appropriation Bill: A Boost for Education and Economic Growth

Nairobi, Kenya – June 10, 2024
President William Ruto has signed into law the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, a legislative move set to unlock resources critical for catalyzing economic performance and enhancing service delivery across the nation. This significant legislative milestone was achieved at the State House in Nairobi, where President Ruto also assented to the Division of Revenue Bill.

The Supplementary Appropriation Bill notably allocates additional resources to the development sector, with a particular focus on university and secondary education. This investment is expected to drive substantial improvements in educational infrastructure and quality, thereby equipping students with the skills necessary to contribute effectively to the national economy.

In a move that underscores the government’s commitment to fiscal prudence, the Bill also reduces the overall budget by Sh132 billion. This reduction is part of a broader strategy aimed at decreasing the fiscal deficit and curbing the accumulation of national debt.

Speaking on the occasion, President Ruto emphasized the importance of these legislative measures in fostering sustainable economic growth. “The Supplementary Appropriation Bill is a crucial step towards unlocking resources that will spur economic development and improve service delivery.

By prioritizing education and development, we are investing in the future of our nation,” he stated.
The assenting of these bills marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s legislative agenda, reflecting the administration’s dedication to balanced and sustainable economic policies.

The additional funding for education and development, coupled with budgetary reductions, sets a promising trajectory for Kenya’s economic and social advancement.
