COUNTY ASSEMBLY ENGAGES KITUI SOUTH RESIDENTS ON FY 2024/2025 BUDGET ESTIMATES.

Members of the public drawn from Kitui South Sub-county’s six wards have today converged at Mutomo Chiefs Camp to give thier views on the Kitui County Budget Estimates for FY 2024/2025.

Addressing participants at Mutomo Chiefs’ Camp, County Budget and Appropriations Commitee Chair Hon. Zacchaeus Syengo (Voo/Kyanatu), revealed that the proposed budget for FY 2024/25 has a total resource envelope of Kshs. 12.7 Billion for both reccuret and development expenditure.

During the exercise, members of the public proposed completion and operationalization of Mutomo Reptile Park, saying that once operationalized, the county will benefit immensely through collection of revenue. They also proposed completion of fencing around the park.

The residents further raised complaints over the the lack of bus park in Mutomo town and called on the county government to apportion some funds to construct a modern bus park to improve transportation in the area. “It is very unfair that this town lack crucial amenities like bus park. This is something that the county government needs to prioritise”, added Michael Musila.

In addition, the residents told the county legislators that county needs to increased funding to cater for stalled projects spread across the vast sub county.

Similarly, the public proposed that the allocation for Community Level Infrastructure Development Programme (CLIDP) be increased to a tune of Kshs. 800 million.

Other issues raised during the engagements were; construction of Gender Based Violence rescue centre, distilling of water boreholes and pipeline extension, upgrading of Mutha health centre to Level IV Hospital and grading of roads.

The Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya who attended today’s forum at Mutomo Chiefs’ Camp, reminded Kitui South residents that the Constitution gives them power to make decisions in matters related to development in their county.

He further said that the County Assembly and the County Executive will continue to work together while respecting the principles of separation of powers, so that Kitui citizenty can reap the benefits of devolution.

In his final remarks, Hon. Syengo thanked the public for their invaluable input and assured them that his committee will incorporate their views in the final report
