Tuesday, 2nd April, 2024The Sector Committee on Basic Education, training and skills development has today kick-started its week-long inspection on the state of ECDE centres done by the County Government of Kitui.
The Committee led by Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o visited Mung’aluni ECDE centre in Mutomo ward Kitui South, Itulu ECDE centre in Ikanga/Kyatune ward in Kitui South and lastly Ituki in Kisasi ward in Kitui Rural.The tutors raised concerns of inadequate teaching materials among other concerns which were well noted by the committee for further deliberations with the relevant stakeholders.
The Committee established the need for additional classrooms and deployment of more teachers to the said centres as well as fencing of the centres.The members also questioned the effectiveness of merging of the ECDE centres after noting that some centres have only one classroom accommodating two classes and the learners have to travel far to access the centres.The inspection tour continues tomorrow to other parts of the County.
