Today the speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya Right Hon. Moses Wetang’ula hosted a delegation from Canada led by the Speaker of the House of Commons Hon. Greg Fergus who called on him in his office.
Acknowledging the strong ties between Canada and Kenya the Hon. Speaker urged the visiting delegation to consider advocating for the relaxation of the Visa entry rules particularly to students and Kenyans wishing to visit Canada to make it easier for those seeking more opportunities.
Noting the massive and untapped potential of the East African Community, he expounded on the available opportunities for Canadian Investors stressing the pole position Kenya has as the gateway for many EAC nations.
Further recognizing the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) role of bringing together Parliamentarians and Parliamentary officials, Speaker Fergus and Hon. Wetang’ula reaffirmed their commitment to staying true to CPA’s bid of pushing for the highest standards of democratic governance and Parliamentary practice while supporting calls for the association to be recognized as an international outfit.
Hon. Wetang’ula also lauded the Canadian government for the support it has offered to Kenya and specifically aspiring women leaders who have been funded by UN Women, a recipient of financial and technical support from Canada.
Hon. Wetang’ula was accompanied to the meeting by various legislators who were Hon. Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South), Hon. Peter Kaluma (Homabay), Hon. Nelson Koech (Belgut), Hon. Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Hon. Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Hon. Leah Sankare (Kajiado), Hon. David Ochieng’ (Ugenya), National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge, Steve Apopo (Director/Chief of Staff) and Prof. Nyokabi Kamau( CPST Director).
The Canadian delegation comprised Mr. Christopher Thornley, the Canadian High Commissioner and his Deputy, Mr. Richard Cannings (MP), Ms. Arielle Kayabaga (MP), Alexis Brunelle – Duceppe (MP) and others.
