Boost for Food Security: Farmers Find Relief in Kitui County

Governor Malombe’s administration in Kitui County has made enhancing food security a top priority, aiming to eliminate hunger among residents. One significant step towards achieving this goal has been the repair and deployment of tractors to assist farmers across the region.

Under the leadership of Governor Malombe, the County Government has taken decisive action to repair dozens of tractors that were previously vandalized and left unusable. These tractors, once restored to mechanical soundness, have been dispatched to various Subcounties and Wards to aid farmers in preparing their fields for the upcoming planting season.

Recently, a batch of five repaired tractors was sent out to serve farmers in specific Wards including Ikanga/Kyatune, Mui, Kyuso, Kanyangi, and Athi. This initiative follows the earlier distribution of seven tractors to areas such as Kisasi, Kyangwithya West, Nzambani, Kauwi, Kithumula/Kwa Mutonga, Mutonguni, and Township Wards.

The impact of this effort cannot be overstated, particularly for the farmers who now have access to affordable tractor services. Unlike the hefty charges of up to Ksh3500 per acre levied by private tractor operators, Governor Malombe’s administration is offering these services at a significantly reduced rate of only Ksh1000 per acre. This reduction in costs directly benefits farmers, easing their financial burden and enabling them to cultivate larger portions of their land.

The commitment of Governor Malombe to improve the standards of living for Kitui County residents is evident in the transparent and efficient execution of such programs. By prioritizing the needs of farmers and investing in agricultural infrastructure, the administration is not only boosting food security but also laying the groundwork for sustainable development and prosperity across the region.

As more tractors are set to be released in the coming weeks upon completion of repairs, the momentum towards a more resilient and thriving agricultural sector in Kitui County continues to build. Through collaborative efforts between the government and local communities, the vision of a food-secure future is steadily becoming a reality.
