In Kenya, the eagerly awaited Form One admission commences today for the last cohort that undertook the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).This group of 1.4 million pupils marked the end of an era, as they were not only the final cohort to undertake the KCPE but would also be the last to sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Among the fortunate students securing coveted spots in national schools, 42,927 learners celebrated their success. Of this number, 22,051 were males, while 20,876 were females. Remarkably, 2,225 learners with special needs triumphed, finding placement in specialized institutions—1,214 being boys and 1,011 girls.
The allocation process also saw 274,746 students earning places in extra county schools, with a division of 141,590 boys and 133,156 girls. In county schools, 288,201 learners rejoiced in their success, with 129,332 being boys and 158,869 being girls. Notably, the majority, a whopping 792,230 learners (423,171 boys and 369,059 girls), secured spots in sub-county schools.
Highlighting the significance of academic achievement, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, emphasized that candidates scoring 400 marks and above would secure placements in national or extra county schools. The placement system prioritizes performance, ensuring that deserving students have access to quality education.

In his address, Secretary Machogu underscored the importance of adhering to Form One joining instructions, cautioning against parents being coerced into buying uniforms from specific outlets. Furthermore, he assured parents that there would be no extra levies imposed, and boarding fees in public secondary schools would remain unchanged in 2024.
As the Form One journey commenced for this final KCPE cohort, the educational landscape in Kenya entered a new chapter, filled with promise and the pursuit of knowledge.
